I'm assuming that RH 9 ships with the wireless tools packages. The tools associated with that are iwconfig
, and iwpriv
. On my system they are located in /usr/sbin
. Do a search to see if they're on your system.
Now, I can't say for sure your card will work the same as mine, but I have a Prism 2.5 card, which uses the orinoco modules. To load the module you type (as root):
modprobe -r orinoco_pci
if it returns nothing (no errors or messages), then the module was loaded. You can double check by typing /sbin/lsmod
. Somewhere in the list you'll see something similar to this:
orinoco_pci 3172 1
orinoco 33324 0 [orinoco_pci]
hermes 5732 0 [orinoco_pci orinoco]
You then might be able to run the RH network configuration to set up the IP, AP, WEP, etc....
If you're not able to get this far, then your card might use something different than the orinoco modules. See what happens.
