you may need to load drivers for your card
you could use ndiswrapper to load the WinXP drivers for it since broadcom doesn't play nice with linux (in my experience)
try here for help with ndiswrapper
or just search LQ for threads about it

good luck and welcome linux hope you enjoy

This would be the driver for your card.. http://bcm43xx.berlios.de/

Theres a couple how-To's in the network section here covering both the use of th bcm43xx driver and ndiswrapper for whichever route you decide to take.

You can also look at http://www.linux-on-laptops.com/hp.html for a how-to that is on similar hardware to what you are using..
