Wireless card not installing
 

I am using Ubuntu 9.10
I am also updating now so if there is a later version out it will be updated to it I hope.
I am new to Ubuntu I had the disk a while back I burned to try it out I liked it a bunch actually but just now got to trying it out again and I am wanting to stick to it.

So I got to system->hardware drivers
It says I need a driver.

I downloaded the driver it need online and I don't know how to install it.
SO I would love to have a nice detailed tutorial on how to get this working.

I believe your ubuntu comes with the driver, all you need is firmware fwcutter.

im running a dual boot box with Windows 7 ultimate on one side that im having no issues with and ubuntu 10.04 on the other. it lists the broadcom STA drivers in the hardware drivers pane but cannot activate it because it says it cannot fetch the archive. i did see the fwcutter listed before but now it isnt showing up. a friend suggested DL'ing the drivers through the windows side of my box and switching over to the linux side to install from a thumb drive. please help.

If you cannot download, do a Google search with the exact name of the driver in quotes. That will help by directing searches to that exact value.

The only way to get windows drivers to work is with a program called ndiswrapper and I would suggest not going with that unless there is no alternative. Using ndiswrapper there is a lot more work to install and may not work as well. Read those articles and then if you have a problem tell us describing where you stop.

ok, i am really confused now. all i want to know is is there a way i can download the drivers i need through the windows side and save them to a thumb drive and then go into my linux and load them from there? i really dont understand all the stuff listed in the links provided and im getting very frustrated. PLEASE GIVE ME A VERY VERY PLAIN ENGLISH EXPLANATION, I REALLY DONT KNOW HOW TO DO ALOT OF THE THINGS YOU GUYS SEEM TO THINK IS EASY

First telling us you do not understand is a start in the right direction but the 'CAPS' are not necessary. They make us think you are yelling at us.

Let me ask you first is this a home wireless network you are working with your windows? The reason is if we can get you there with a wire it will be a lot easier. It could be done through windows I guess but getting a list of the necessary dependencies may be a problem. I would have to do research to be able to help you.

i dont have an internet connection. i go to the local dunkin donuts or i can use a wired connect at the library. assuming the ethenet works i need to know what to do to get what i need through my windows side and fix the linux side. im considering Fusion which a friend told me about today but its just a matter of unds at this point and if there is a version of fusion that i can put on a PC.
