wireless AND ethernet problems

ASUS F5R; Attansic (now Atheros) L2 Fast Ethernet & Atheros AR5007EG wireless NIC.

I've tried several distros (PCLOS, Ubuntu, Mandriva etc etc) but am unable to connect to the internet; I've even tried an USB 3G Modem with no success.
The correct drivers are installed and I've even tried an XP driver with ndiswrapper.

On PCLOS (LXDE), the following message appears, whether ethernet, wireless or 3G :-

Problems occured during the network connectivity test.
This can be caused by invalid network configuration, or problems with your modem or router.
You might want to relaunch the configuration to verify the connection settings.

Wireless switched on, wireless and ethernet work fine using Vista, tried removing the router security settings, but still not working. Any suggestions on solving this problem? Thanks.

Please post the output of the following commands in quote or code tags
ifconfig -a
cat /proc/interrupts
iwconfig wlan0
It seems there's regular problems with that wifi. A google like AR5007EG linux module steers you in.

In openSUSE I could solve my problem with "collectNWData":
It should work in many other Linus Distris too.

Not sure why (have BT made changes?) but I reset my router -BT HomeHub 2- to factory settings, then altered the SSID and WPA2-PSK to new values. The Vista laptop now connects by ethernet and wireless using PCLOS. However, the Win 7 laptop connects both ways using Win 7 but only by ethernet in PCLOS and by wireless to non-secured networks (BT Openzone), not to secured wireless. Almost there; just a bit more fiddling to do.
