Thumbs up Wipe out Mac OSX from a 2006 macbook

I am considering on removing all OSX 10.6.8 from my old macbook then installing linux. It is a Mac 2.1 with an Intel Core 2 Duo, 1 processor 2 cores. 1 gig memory. What are your thoughts and or recommendations. The machine is a hardy one and I would love to prolong its life.

Best,
JPN

PS, my goal is to recycle all my old machines. I am old but not dead. I am a real newbie.

Welcome aboard.
Putting Linux on Macs has been done before, so probably try 'Googling' for a 'how to'.

Make sure you test any GNU/Linux distributions in the "Live" environment before installing to check hardware compatibility.

With that hardware you should be looking at the "lighter" desktops -- LXDE & XFCE -- rather than KDE or GNOME.

Mint with the MATE desktop would probably work well and is suited to users with little experience.
