according to my current ubuntu, to run virtualbox
you will need 2 or 3 packages to installed,
1. virtualbox-ose
2. virtualbox-ose-modules-generic or virtualbox-ose-modules-rt or may b both.

You will find both of them in Synaptic Package Manager. What Preparing Linux Image did you load, and what Linux Image Kernel are you running?
