WinSCP transfers big files slowly. Any alternatives?

As title, I have a 100Mbps LAN card in both computers(Linux+Windows). When I tried to transfer large files, such as a DVD, the standard FTP transfers at a speed of 10MB/s while WinSCP only does that at a speed of 1.6MB/s.

However, I am worried about FTP as I know little about FTP's security as it transmits data over the internet under an unencrypted channel.

What would be the best tool to transfer large files in terms of high speed+high security?

thanks.
I just searched sftp in google and apparently I've discovered that sftp is an embedded feature of winscp.

What's the difference between sftp and scp?
