winmodem - smartlink

Hi to everybody!

I have a Fujitsu Amilo D 8830 laptop. I have installed Suse 9.2. Everything works fine apart from the modem (SmartLink). I executed scanModem and as far as I understand my modem chip set info is
vendor: 24c6,
device: 8086,
type: ICH4.

Next I downloaded the slmodem.2.9.10 driver from the smartlink site (the latest release). After the driver installation I tried to connect my modem...but it failed.

Did I download the correct driver?

Has enyone else faced the same problem with the same PC and the same Linux distro?

Thanks

barthol

The driver will only work if a) you compiled it from source, and had the correct kernel source installed at the same time, or b) installed the driver that matched the kernel you currently have running.

The best thing to do (well, the simplest at least), would be to download the pre-built Suse rpm package, and install that. The package name is "smartlink-softmodem.<someversion>.rpm".

Cheers,

mj
