Winlinux newbie issues
 

Hi I started using winlinux about 2 days ago at first I was very sure i could figure this problem out myself or by checking out online tut's but I still can't get this working. My Problem is that winlinux completely boots up fine and everything but when I try to startX then it goes to the login and start screen then complete blackness the only way to turn off my comp after this is manually I believe my problem is with my video card you see winlinux does not detect it It's a stb nitro dvd agp, and windows did not detect it either the way I got it to work with windows is that I downloaded device drivers and manually installed it, but with linux I am not sure if this is possible I've tried tricking linux out by picking similar video cards but that just makes it so that X doesn't start at all I will greatly appreciate it if someone could drop me a line on here cause I have no clue thanks

OK. It's quite a rarity for Linux to go down so badly that you have to hard-reboot to fix the problem. Firstly, try setting up your X configuration to the lowest possible demonination (640x480x16 generic VGA isn't it?). If this runs, try the next one up. Oh, and make sure that you back up the files between each one. Eventually you should have reached a reasonable setup. If, however, you still just get blank screens, try pressing CTRL-ALT-BACKSPACE. This should close the X server and dump you back at the command line. If not, try pressing CTRL-ALT-F1 (or F2, or whatever). If you manually types startx, then ctrl-alt-f1 should show you the X logging, in which case, just press CTRL-C to close X.
