First post from total linux n00b coming up.....
I'm trying to run WINE on Fedora Core 5 on an Athlon64. It comes up with the error: wine: creating configuration directory '/root/.wine'... X Error of failed request: GLXBadContext Major opcode of failed request: 143 (GLX) Minor opcode of failed request: 5 (X_GLXMakeCurrent) Serial number of failed request: 166 Current serial number in output stream: 166 wine: wineprefixcreate failed while creating '/root/.wine'. First advice: Never run programs as root, only needed commands and system config tools. It looks like you have problems with your video drivers, have you tried to install them ? And what video hardware do you run?

I had this with Athlon 64, FC5 and ATI drivers.
My solution was to disable SE Linux and reboot. |
