Exclamation Wine , Internet Explorer and BitLord

I am using RHEL4. First linux distro i've used. Been on it for about 2 weeks now. I've mounted my multiple hard drives yada yada, and installed lotsa software. having some fun thus far. Now I am decided to up my knowledge and know-how of linux, and installed wine (20040911 i believe). I 'successfully' installed Bitlord as a test software using just wine. Then when i tried to run it it asked me to download msxml3 ------ long story short, I found out that i need IE to run it, so i got winetools. That installed fine, but ie isnt installing cuz it keeps downloading the damn sp1 from the website. filename is ie6setup.exe , but it just aint installing. the wine config is set to think its in win98, i have setup the fake windows directory, the error message i get is below

In 32 bit mode.

just as a side note, there are linux torrent clients that work without the use of wine. wine has a lot of problems with a lot of software.

if you get the crossover office or cedega projects (have to pay for them) you will have way better support for products and things will go smoother if you just have to run windows products.

crossover office used to offer a free 30 day trial of their software, no clue if they still do, but cedega does not offer a free trial.

the only distro that i have seen that has a KNOWN issue with cedega is Debian-sarge. there are several issues with sarge, but not woody or sid. go figure.

thats no worries guys, i was just testing wine out on that specific proggie, wanted to see how windows dependencies are supported in wine. was basically just setting up the environment so that i could use it later with other windows proggies that I ca(o)me across.

Try the steps below:
1) mv ~/.wine to ~/.wineold
2) run winetools (it should be wt)
3) With winetools, make a fake Windows directory
4) With winetools, install DOM95
5) With winetools, install Internet Explorer

You should be able to run Internet Explorer by typing ie6. The file ie6 will be under $HOME/bin or ~/bin.

If Internet Explorer works, you can delete the directory ~/.wineold. Next you can install any Windows program.

Like what Lleb_KCir said, you do not need to use wine to use bitTorrent clients. There are many for Linux. I use Azureus because it is simple to use and it runs on many OS because it is a JAVA based program.

the only problem with Azureus in linux is getting java to run on your distro.

its a major PITA to get it running on a debian system.
