Wine, Games, and Slack 10 - already checked google and linuxquestions

The answers were either too cryptic (for me) or nonexistent.

My problem started in trying to install Jedi Outcast (1.02) in Linux through Wine to play deathmatch (ctf) online.
It needed stdole32.tlb
I copied it to /home/userdirectory/.wine/drive_c/windows
(
$su
password
#cp stdole32.tlb /home/userdirectory/.wine/drive_c/windows
exit
)
After doing that, it would see the CDROM from X and start the installer, but it wouldn't recognize the CD while actually inside the game (the game's menu).

It says now when I try to click the game's installer button (and after the first window coming up, and installshield attempting to load and hanging indefinitely):

(popup)An installation support file could not be installed. (0x80004003)

In xterm,
bash-2.05b# err:ole:MARSHAL_Register_Proxy Already have mid?
or as user,
bash-2.05b$ err:ole:MARSHAL_Register_Proxy Already have mid?

I think I'm running X as user.

I put the whole CD in a "drive_d" folder in /.wine and got those errors also. I used KDE as user to do this because cp kept skipping the folder I was trying to copy.

Please, if you choose to answer, don't send cryptic answers. I need steps listed, I'm not good at Linux yet.

I have no desire to play the game patched, even if that could help. It's a completely different set of people online and the game is very different.

Thanks in advance for any help...

Frank's Corner has info on doing this. Have you tried there?
