both top newbie questions in one!

in linux you really should try to use native programs as a first option, don't use wine unless you MUST use a certain windows application. there are very capable native replacements for nearly any app you might care to mention

same goes for limewire.... try a native program... gtk-gnutella for example, or maybe a different network altogether such as gIFT

I agree...tried WINE for a frustrating half a day trying to get the diddly-wop to diddly-wap in the end diddly-slapped it into the trashcan. It sort of defeats the purpose too.

If your dual-booting just boot into windows if you need to use a windows app...now I only use windows for the three things I can't get adequately on Linux: Music sequencing/recording, games and streaming media...apart from that Linux does it for me especially development/learning.

J2RE Solved

Open Java ( /usr) find file (eg) J2re1.4.1.02
find plugin folder >>> go for i386 >>> ns610

copy the above file and fire it over to the following: /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins

Check Help in your browser `About Plugins ` and there it is !

thanks for your help guys ..:)

Now on to Wine and Limewire......Limewire has got to be easy..its just knowing where to place in my files..so unobvious at the moment...lol ..

acid_kewpie 05-21-2003 07:48 AM

a native program is easier... ;)

Limewire Prob

Finally got LW up and running !.....thanks Chris.but I prefer the exhilaration of defeating the beast now and then !!..that why I chose Linux in the first place ..it kinda liberates the mind !....as with old Bill the Gate ...Microsoft makes ya Mindsoft !!...nuff said :)

Thanks for your help guys

but that's not defeating... that's getting by by the narrowest margin possible... either way, if it works for you...

Re: The above

I was speaking metaphorically Chris...lol...and yes I would consider a platform based App like you suggest most likely to be the easiest option in this case, however I focused on a particular goal, completed it andthus succeeded in learning something new here and that right now is what I consider counts....Im intent on trying your kind suggestion and will let you know. my outcome

In the meantime thanks for your input...its greatly appreciated
