Hello there,

I installed Man8.0 on a factory installed WinME system. First thing that happened was WinME threw a fit and wouldn't start. I think it was the LILO in the MBR. I kind of need to do a dual boot with Windows because my wife uses it, and doesn't want to learn something else. Anyway, is there a way to have the system boot up to WinMe as it always has and then when I want to run Linux to load it from Windows? Since I am a newbie at this, I'm sure I'll need to get step by step instructions. By the way, I have not made a boot floppy yet. (I haven't had much time to look around in Linux because I was messin' around trying to get WinME back up.)

The reason for LILO is so that you could boot both Linux and windows from one screen at boot time. All you need to do is re-install Mandrake, but select expert install. When it comes to selecting the bootloader I would choose GRUB if LILO didn't work, but make sure that you select windows as the default to load.

You can actually do this from the Mandrake Control Center if you can Load it back up.

Everything is running fine right now. In fact Linux is going great. Are you saying that I can change the bootloader and its default from Control Center? If so, is it intuitive? I am so new to the whole thing that I don't know what to expect.

It shouldn't be too hard.

Make sure that you install it to the MBR (/dev/hda), and just select windows as the default.

To get to it just click on the link on the desktop and choose the top section from the menu on the left. You can make a boot disk or change the boot options.
