I use dosbox. Dosbox is ported for many systems including
windows. It slows the computer down as many new computers
run too fast for old dos games. Dosbox is a true emulator,
in Linux it uses the sdl library.
ScummVM is an emulator for a particular breed of older games. I'm not sure entirely which ones it supports but if your game is on the list then it'd probably go a bit better than a generic emulator such as dosbox
