Windows doesn't boot after installing ubuntu!!

Hello everybody

I had Windows 7 installed on my PC. After that I installed ubuntu to dual boot the system. Now my windows doesn't start up (As soon as the windows logo appears,it restarts!!!)

I want to do a clean install of windows 7 now removing ubuntu but the windows disk does not recognise any hard disk.

What is the problem? How do I install windows again?

Please help ASAP
Thank you

Are you able to boot Ubuntu? Which Ubuntu do you have, 9.10? The most recent version of Ubuntu, 9.10 uses a different version of Grub than earlier versions so it is important to know to get proper advice.

I assume you installed Grub to mbr during Ubuntu install?

If you can boot Ubuntu, run the command "sudo fdisk -l" (without quotes and Lower case Letter L) and post this partition information. If you are getting a windows logo, I would assume you are past Grub to the windows bootloader?

Do login with Ubuntu and back up your data on DVDs!!!

If you can see the win logo, it should enter the system by itself, this sounds like win 7 was altered.

Try to fix your bootloader first, in this case, GRUB.

if it doesnt work out...

I suggest you back up your data for safety, re-install vista and then install Ubuntu. Maybe you want to create a VFAT partition just for data, it's always safe and both operating system can write and read on it.

good luck.

I have the same problem, I get to the Win 7 logo screen (which means Win 7 attempts to start) but it reboots after that. Any suggestion to fix Win 7 without re-installing?

Log in to Ubuntu, open a terminal and run the command: sudo fdisk -l (lower case Letter L in the command) and post this partition information.
It would also be helpful if you could post the contents of /boot/grub/grub.cfg.
