Question Windows dismount for fresh Linux start?

Hi All

New to Linux but can't seem to reformat my hard drive in a Fujitsu Siemens Laptop. I want to rid the thing of Windows XP and start fresh. When I try to format C: it won't dismount windows? I've tried the suffix which says it should dismount but it just reports the same problem.
Any suggestions?
Thanks
Smiler

You would format from the Linux install CD, not from within Windows itself.

If Ubuntu, yes - that's the default action. Causes grief for a lot of people, but you should be o.k.

Thumbs up

OK

Thanks for your help. I reformatted C: using the Windows XP Disc that cured that problem. Ironic really to think that the Windows XP CD would assist in its own demise!!! LOL!

OK all appears OK just spent 2days trying to master Network Manager for a USB Wireless Dongle! Phew that was hard work but interesting to say the least, I'm still not sure how I managed it but it eventually connected and here I am!Wireless on Ubuntu Linux!

Smile [solved]

Oh and I forgot to say I am using an 800MHz P3 256MB Laptop so I had to down load the alternate ISO CD for text install as trying to install from the Live CD proved that the limited resources on this laptop couldn't handle it! Only took two attempts to successfully create the disc, not bad for a newbie!!!

I'm pleased to report that all appears to be functioning correctly, thanks for your replies.
