windows boot slow on dual boot machine
 

I have a dual boot machine that has win2k and ubuntu on different partitions. Before i had ubuntu, i had redhat 9 and FC4 on it. Windows seems to take forever to boot now. I remember reading somewhere that the Linux 2.6 kernel somehow corrupted windows files (or something like that). And the fix for that was pretty simple (but i dont remember) :(

The Linux kernel does not somehow corrurpt Windows files. Windows has a bad habit of not understanding filesystems other then those produced by Microsoft however.

During the startup process of Windows the hard drive is "inspected", this can slow the boot process down if partitions do not end on cylinder bounderies. The fix is using the Windows Administration Console-->Drive Management and setting the Linux partitions to be ignored.

The easiest is to uninstall windows.

Maybe something went wrong inside Zindows when you were using it...

Can you pinpoint an exact time when this happens?

If your HD is smart enabled you may want to check that
there is not something wrong with the HD.

Yep that's nout to with linux the linux 2.6 kernel definatley does not corrupt windows files, but you may have a problem with cylinder boundries like the dude above me stated
