"window media player" ???
Do you mean that you can not play windows media player files (i.e., media files that have the .wmv extension) in Ubuntu??
If this is indeed the problem simply install the "ubuntu-restricted-extras" package from the Ubuntu Software Center or Synaptic Package Manger and you should be good to go.
You should also enable the medibuntu repository to have access to the w32 (for 32 bit Ubuntu) and the w64 (for 64 bit) Windows codecs. See this: http://medibuntu.org/repository.php
Running that first command there from the terminal should be sufficient to enable the medibuntu repository.

Alternatively, just open the problematic .wmv file with the Totem media player (it may be listed as just Movie Player in the Ubuntu menu). This should offer to install the needed codec if you do not have it already installed.
Write back if you need more help.

I have no experience with webcams, so I can not help with that.

Lightbulb

You can try downloading PlayOnLinux:

http://www.playonlinux.com/en/

This application isn't just for games but also for media, internet and many other applications that run on Windows that you would like to use on Linux. When you want to download it, go to this link ( http://www.playonlinux.com/en/download.html ), select Ubuntu and follow the instructions on how to place the repo onto your computer. The installation of PlayOnLinux did take some time so be sure you can leave your computer on for a long period of time.

Once the installation is complete, you will be be able to see PlayOnLinux in the "Games" category. When you execute the application, you will be asked some additional questions to complete the setup of PlayOnLinux. Once complete, you will be able to add Windows Media Player from the INSTALL button.

I attached a screenshot to this post, check this out.

most webcams are recognised in linux, there are a number of programs to control cams.

woud recommend a program called cheese,to download this either go to a terminal window and type: sudo apt-get install cheese ....or.... click up the synaptic package manager and type in 'cheese',then go through the whole instalation process that way.
either way it will install.
cheese is a very good webcam program and have never used anything else on mine.
its alot like the windows program 'manycam' without the bulk or commercial feel.

the homepage for cheese:
http://projects.gnome.org/cheese/

There are lots of good media player in Linux why does it have to be Windows Media Player?
Ubuntu at the moment has Banshee pre installed and for videos it has Totem but VLC is easy to install also.
For web cams there is Cheese.
Good luck to you.

If you are using Cheese program and you are facing some problems with Cheese, then you need to checkout this page: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Webcam
