window lags

if i try to move it fast, my screen would look like a warp portal. ive installed linux a few times but this is the first time i had this problem. i dont know if i just misconfigured something in kde as i was trying to "beautify" it. anyone know what kde option might trigger this behavior?

thanks in advance. :)

One time my portal warped right off the planet, dude! Sure hope that doesn't happen again. These unexpected trips to the Moon cause my buns a lot of problems on reentry.

any real answer?

heloooo0000h!

i just installed another distro using kde. it displays the same problem. i wonder if my computer's just too slow to accomodate kde. i have athlon xp 2000+. nvidia geforce mx400 64 mb, and 256 mb of ram. is it just too old?

thanks.

up.
anyone?

Bruce Hill 11-30-2007 02:39 AM

Yes, I just got up from a nap. You rang, master?

Perhaps you should read How To Ask Questions The Smart Way, because your OP sounds like a script kiddie's monologue. I have absolutely no clue about your system, your configuration, or even what a "warp portal" might be. If you have the time, this article is, IMO, well worth a read. If you don't have the time, and you still want to get questions answered by the hacker volunteers who man free software projects, then you really should make the time anyway and read this article.

Wow. Very nice reading. Thanks for that link.

Any real help hacker guru?

For those who really give a damn to a newbies problem:
It leaves a distorted window trail. I dont know how else to describe it.

Since you're having a bit of a problem, perhaps we can just guess.

1 -What is it that you are moving?

3 - How did you configure KDE? What did you change from Slackware's KDE defaults?

1. windows.

2. if i try to move one around my desktop it creates something like a freezed distorted window trail.

3. i changed window decorations to crystalgl, added domino widget style.
on my second kde linux, crystal was already installed. didnt know if
it had domino. i erased it already cause it was too slow for a fresh
install.
also, i don't use slackware.

your pc specs are enough for linux, and x problems, arnt the end of linux, yes it would be nice to have all the answers as a previous poster pointed out, but i dont think you need to be picked on for the lack of info...

Everybody learns by asking questions, even if they are strange...

ok kde is just a desktop running upon a distro, what some need is what distro...(thats, linux distro(name) and version number)

what kde version(number)

and what you have done to it...

as you have had this running fine before, it sounds like a problem caused by configuration, but we wont rule out other causes...

hopefully someone will give you an answer soon, or i shall have to work it out when i get on next...

Good luck with your problem and not everyone is as rude as previous poster...

wraithe. thanks for the reply. i don't think it was the distro. ive tried it with kubuntu 7.10 and another distro. they were experiencing the same window lag.
unfortunately my pc got broken so i can't know the version now. maybe it's just too old. i hope i get a new pc soon. thanks anyway. :)

maybe you have the compiz "blur" effect enabled
some effects need a good Video card to run (these effects do not run on my 128MB ATI card)

maybe if you could give us a specific distro you are working with and just have a little more patience we could come to a solution to your problem (I know you waited for a long time already)

I hope you a quick easy fix for your computer

djre 12-14-2007 08:16 AM

thanks for the reply. ive done a fresh install on my resurrected pc and it displays the same behavior without any modifications done with kde yet. maybe its the distro, but im not planning on changing distros for very long time. :) im very happy with it. this is just a small problem i could live with. thanks guys.
