Window emulator for Ubuntu12.1 and\or LinuxMint14KDE Mate( which ever is easier)

I seek an emulator that can read a Canons Driver disk and install the driver.

Im having some trouble with Wine to do this. I seek recomendations of software.

2nd. Does Cannon have a functional driver for MG2120? I can print but can't use the scanner in ubuntu.

3rd Can windows be installed alongside of Linux anlogus to windows allowing Linux to be installed along side it?

Hi, welcome to LQ,

Both Windows and Linux can be installed on the same computer. This can be done using "virtualisation" using software like VirtualBox or by using Dual boot. In that case, Windows need to be installed first if you want to avoid trouble. As for the printer, Wine will likely not work as it is _NOT_ a windows emulator. Googleing for a Sane scanner driver is probably a better option than installing windows. Scanners are always a little more problematic than printers as less people care about them. Even more true these day as smartphones are probably the main scanner for most peoples.

I've found two sites with Linux driver packages for Canon MG2120 series printers.

Scroll down to Download Canon PIXMA MG2120 All-In-One Printer Driver for Linux (Ubuntu, Linux Mint, Debian, Fedora, openSUSE, and other distributions) to find a download link for the .deb package. If that package doesn't work for you, try scrolling down to the link for the source package and compile it for your computer.

Also, This site has a source package, with instructions, for MG2120 series printers. Scroll down to 1 Answer for the download link and instructions.

Thanks for the Emulator and print driver issue

A general question to many, I like Linuxmint and Ubuntu. I think Linuxment is more elegant and more complete on initial install, but both op systems are close. which one is selected by this forum for ease of use, installing packages. Any major advantages and disadvantages?.

I choose Ubuntu to be the main op for it appears to be the representitive to interface with the world, why, laptops and are sold with unbuntu on it; have not seen linuxmint laptops.

Im diatribing a bit to hlp my question.......this question is refering to linuxmint14kde(mate) vs Ubuntu12.1
