Will these two adapters work with my new SATA DVD recorder/player?
I bought a new SATA DVD recorder/player/drive (the one for a Desktop computer, not the slim one) but my motherboard only has IDE cables. So I've narrowed my search for an adapter to two adapters.
But the first adpater says it's "PATA IDE to SATA converter" but in the "Overview" section it says it's
Quote:
SATA 7+15 TO PATA IDE Converter Adapter For 3.5 HDD DVD
. So it should work, right? (And are the 7+15 pins referring to what will go into the DVD drive?)
The second adapter looks identical to the first one but it says it's "SATA to PATA/IDE HARD DRIVE interface adapter." And there is nothing in the description that says it will work with DVD drives. But again, it looks identical to the first one (and someone here said they've had good luck with it).
1) Think they'll both work with my new SATA drive?
2) If "yes" to number one, would there be any reason to get the more expensive one?
3) And the question about the 7 + 15 pins.
Is this for the Optiplex? If so, I thought I remember you saying it used SATA? If it is IDE, although an adapter may work, I would recommend returning the SATA drive and purchasing an IDE drive in it's place, just to be on the safe side.
Although it's a bit more, perhaps something like this, assuming you bought the SATA drive at newegg.
Regards...

Thanks ardvark, but I'm committed to the SATA drive (Newegg sent me a refund for not returning it). We'll see what happens with the adapter. Hopefully, it'll work. Appreciate it (and thanks for the link).
There's a concept! I wonder if their warehouse is overflowing with these drives?

Hey ardvark. I was wondering about that myself. They gave me an $8.00 credit on a $13.99 drive. Hmm. All I could think of was that it would cost them more to process the return, and as a side-effect they also have a super-happy customer. (And Newegg is good at making loyal customers. I must admit I'm one.)
