wifi problem in RHELv5.3
 

hi, i m new to this forum,
my intel wifi adapter a5100 is not working with RHEL v5.3
although linux is detecting it. but when i am making it active
in network configuration panel i am getting
"SCIOFlAGS error"
any help would be appreciated?

Best thing you can do, would be to call RedHat, since you're paying for support with your RHEL subscription. If you're not paying, load CentOS, or another community-supported version of Linux.

Where are you getting this error? What are you doing to get it?

I hv rhel without support
i had opened d terminal n entered neat
then in d network config window it is showing both eth0 n wlan0
then I selected wlan0 n made it active
then it was trying to start d wlan0
but then I got d following error
"Siocsifflags: no such file or directory"
can anyone help me?

Spell your words out. If you can't be bothered writing, why should we be bothered reading?

And what is "neat"??? RHEL is "system-config-network", which you need to run as root:

And again, if you're not paying for RHEL, use something else that's community supported. First, this is a known bug in RHEL 5.3, which (if you bothered to pay for support), you would have known:

Second, CentOS, openSUSE, Mandriva, Ubuntu, etc., probably don't suffer from this issue, and will work just fine, right off the bat.

which one is good for a developer?

In addition to the ones TBOne already suggested, you can try anything in the top ten on the "hit list" at http://distrowatch.com

(Any mainstream Linux distro can be used for development)

I mentioned several in my last post. As pixellany pointed out, pretty much ANY distro can be used for development.

I have nightmares that these abbreviations will start showing up in Webster's dictionary. People learning ESL may actually believe they are speaking English when they use texting shorthand........<<shudder>>

"SPELL YOUR WORDS OUT" means that you should not use the SMS language in this forum. That is against the rules.

e.g.

A gentle suggestion,

A person who MAY :

not be a native English speaker
and
be new to the technical forums
and
may not have communicated with the western country people before

will find it difficult to understand the phrases used in English and therefore may repeat the mistakes again and again !

Kindly use very plain and basic English while pointing out the mistakes to them.

First, I think LQ members are generally very patient with non-native English speakers. It is no secret that texting shorthand (SMS--whatever) is a hot-button topic for many of us. As I stated earlier, I think there could be a very real issue wherein students of English actually believe that SMS is part of the language.

For what it's worth, your English is actually quite good---just be sure not to say things like "hv", "u", and "r" in place of the real words.

Understand all of that, and agree, to a point. Not meaning to sound sarcastic, but I am uncertain how to ask folks to spell out their words in a more basic, plain fashion, than by saying "spell your words out".

"spell your words out" can be said as "Do not use the SMS language or texting shorthand in this forum. That is against the rules."

That is a lengthy sentence but it will be easily understood by non-english speakers :)
