I successfully installed Slackware 10.0 on my HP Pavilion, but when I try to reboot to start linux I get a blank screen with the letters LI and a blinking _ (underscore?) What does this mean?

You have a lilo error.
Your best bet, is to reboot with the slack 10 CD in the drive.
Start setup again, and when this comes up, choose "Slackware installation scripts to run again"
Here, choose to install lilo.
