Wierd keyboard and mouse behaviour in vi and emacs...
Fresh installation of Slackware 9.1....
In the terminals, the home and end keys work fine. However when I use vi to edit a file, the home and end keys output the 'F' and 'H' characters instead..... whats up with that? Its similar in emacs, the home and end keys don't function correctly. Also in emacs, when I move the mouse around without pushing any of the buttons, it randomly copies lines of text and deletes text, occasionally quits emacs. What do I need to do to get the mouse and keyboard to behave nicely in vi and emacs? Thanks in advance.. Lindsay |
;) RTfM's;)
Seriously, the general problem is that many, many such programs were written for older keyboards by and for people who thought that a quadruple bucky was normal for "real men". So, you can learn the intricacies of termcap & the like, find a terminal / 104-key keyboard friendly version of these editors, or perhaps swich to something else. Pesonally I try to know just enough vi for emergencies; but use mcedit, kedit, kwrite, or kate otherwise. |
