Hello,

I am new to the Linux operating system and doing my best to learn my way around here.

I have Dell G3 3579 laptop and running in dual boot i.e. Windows 10, Linux Mint Cinnamon and Kali Linux Live (USB) with persistence.

Whereas my Windows 10 and Linux Mint OS all running very smoothly, I am unable to get my WiFi adapter wlan0 started. I have purged all my iwlwifi drivers and reinstalled them from gitHub repositories but didn't managed to get my WiFi going. I am currently using my phone in USB tethering mode to access the net. My Bluetooth is running without any issue.

Appreciate any help help to get me out of this imbroglio.

I have tried to enable/restart network manager with the following commands without any success. Also, no change observed in WiFi by changing

As mentioned earlier, I have already uninstalled and reinstalled the latest iwlwifi firmware from the GitHub repository. But didn't manage to get the WiFi going.

The issue here is that somehow my wifi driver keeps crashing. As you can see from Dmesg, the system tries to launch the latest iwlwifi-9000-pu-b0-jf-b0-46.ucode firmware.

Also, the suggestion well noted.

I found iwlwifi-9000-pu-b0-jf-b0-34.ucode, probably you can give it a try. https://www.intel.com/content/www/us...etworking.html or https://wireless.wiki.kernel.org/en/...rivers/iwlwifi (or you can try any other version from github)

If the suggestion is 'well noted', why are you still using Kali?? Kali's own website says it's for advanced Linux users, and then for pentesting/security purposes only, not for daily use. And their own website tells you that WiFi is **DISABLED**, and why.

If you're new to Linux, why are you using Kali?? What's the purpose for selecting it?? If you load Mint or Ubuntu, things will 'just work', and you can actually learn. There is nothing special about Kali...ANY version of Linux can do what it does with the appropriate configuration.

I am not a complete newbie to computer software programming as I have done my M.S. in computer science from a very reputed university in the USA in the year 1985. However, due to some personal reasons, I could not pursue my career in the field of my chosen subjects. Instead, I joined the navy and retired last year as a senior officer.

Now since I have all the time in this world, I have decided to refresh/upgrade my computers science knowledge as a hobby. Accordingly, I have been working on various OS and of course Linux Mint. It is only when I started feeling comfortable in Linux Mint, I chose to try my hands on Kali (No, Not 'Breaking Bad').

I apologise once again for having caused any inconvenience to you.

Seems to be driver problem, try install driver or reinstall

If you not sure about the correct driver to your device try " sudo lspci -k | grep ‘Network controller’ "

I have already installed/uninstalled and then reinstalled the recommended iwlwifi driver without achieving any success.

No inconvenience at all, but you cannot both be new to Linux, but experienced at the same time. Again; Kali **IS NOT** a good choice for daily use, period. Again, their own website tells you this, and suggests that you run it as a virtual machine and only then for pentesting/security testing. You are not doing either, nor are you referencing their own website/documentation. Again: wifi is **DISABLED** in Kali, and their website tells you how to enable such things. Can't be more plain than that.

For someone who graduated with an MS from a 'very reputed' university with so many years of experience with computers/software, it's odd that you don't seem to know the basics about doing research, or reading documentation. AGAIN: **DO NOT USE KALI**, use a different distro, and use Kali in accordance to what the people who WROTE IT advise.

My intention of choosing Kali Linux Live (USB with persistence) was due to the fact that I had seen on a number of forums people asking questions on Kali Linux installation issues. But most of the answers were leaving much to be desired. Hence I took it up as a challenge. It was never my intention to learn Kali.

I am now closing this thread.
