It could be a power supply issue. Some computers are set to reboot when the AC fails. I suggest using the best redundant power supplies.

How much RAM does your server have? If /dev/shm and RAM are equal, your computer will eventually crash.

Redhat 9 is old and it will not handle a hack. I suggest MySQL or PostgreSQL. Oracle hooks on to the kernel like a worm. If it crashes, so will Linux. Using either MySQL or PostgreSQL will save you a lot of money.

I suggest for a server that /var/log be on its own partition, database be on its on drive, and miscellaneous data be on another drive.

You might be running atd which maybe one of your problems. I suggest using chkconfig or Redhat's GUI program to turn off services that you do not need.

If you are running RH9, is your HW also that old? If so, could be hot fault/aging chip somewhere.
Does the re-boot happen at same time each time? Dieing HW isn't usually that repeatable.
Also, RH9 is so old that there's no more support for it, inc security patches.
Can you upgrade to a current version?
The free version is now RH Fedora Core 6, or you can get Centos, which is the RH Enterprise version, but re-badged & free.
Anyway, good luck & let us know how it goes.

Have you resolved this problem? I'm faceing the same problem as yours. Every sunday morning at exactly 04:02 the servers(2) restart and then have an abnormal behaviour, performing very slow, sometimes not responding to ping... i have to come every sunday morning to the office to manualy restart the servers.

Here is a part of the messages:

server1
Sep 21 04:02:07 rac1 cups: cupsd shutdown succeeded
Sep 21 04:02:09 rac1 cups: cupsd startup succeeded

server2
Sep 21 04:02:06 rac2 syslogd 1.4.1: restart.
