Question why should we export COMPTOP and what does !export do ?

Hi,
Just I am following the command blindly !export or export COMPTOP.
What actually this does?Please can any one explain clearly about this.

It might help if you gave us some useful information, like what version/distro of Linux, and what "comptop" actually is.

From a quick Google search, I came up with the Plex software, that has a complete manual online, that covers that.

I just have a project in a directory and when ever I make a package install I am always asked to export the COMPTOP.Please clarify

First, you have a VERY old version of Linux. I'd suggest upgrading, if you want to do anything current.

Second, you STILL haven't said what comtop is. You say you have "a project in a directory"....WHAT directory? WHAT project, in WHAT software????

So, if I'm understanding you correctly, you're using software that uses this, but have no idea what it is?

From my very first post, it's part of the Plex software, which is the only reference I could find to it. All the export command does, is set that environment variable, that (apparently), your software needs to run.
