Well, could you copy the commandline output it gives here? It should tell you where the problem is.

read close about fedora they do not include know third party binaries.
http://www.linuxpackages.net/redirec...oarch-1szl.tgz down load this creat a file named codecs extract them into it. any way theses are third party bionaries codecs nd they go in your /usr/lib/codecs file and then you need to make a nother file /usr/lib/win32 and copy them into there to. or symlink it to codecs. any way now this should help.

You need framebuffer drivers compiled in and certain access rights to some devices. Still, the error message would be nice to see.
Can you play video as root?

Whe i played it as a root it did the same, all was in asci code. the sound was on but the video.

i don't know if i have to make a screen configuration to play videos on the terminal(the black screen) , maybe the resolution is wrong or something.

My guess is that the problem is that the DISPLAY environment variable is not set from within the particular shell that the console spawns when it starts up.

Can you show us what your DISPLAY environment variable is set to *in this particular console*?

$ echo $DISPLAY

Mine says: localhost:11.0, which means: graphical display #11 on my box.

GNU/Linux is a multi-user operating system, and as such each user can have their own display. In my case, there are many users logged into my box, which have taken up the other display numbers. So I got assigned display #11.

It is possible to set your DISPLAY variable to a different value, say 6, which may be Bob down the hall's display. In this way it is possible to see the future `X' programs that he launches.

I believe that `xhost(1)' (man 1 xhost) is used to allow or disallow other people from watching your DISPLAY.---rm_dash_rf_star.

OK, try this

mplayer -vo help | grep fbdev

Do you see something like

fbdev Framebuffer Device
fbdev2 Framebuffer Device
? If so, try playing a file like this

mplayer -vo fbdev <filename>

and post the error message you're getting. If not, try

mplayer -vo svga <filename>

and watch for error messages again. What happens?

Well, I don't know what else to suggest. You apparently don't have framebuffer support and no svga support. Let's see if somebody else has any suggestions...

wow, the problem was so easy to solve
first of all, i had to edit menulist.txt in the boot directory
and write vga=791 where said label=
thats all, now i can play videos in text mode.
thank you
