How to eneble telnet in linux based os?

I'd tried this command:

telnet my pc ip & name

telnet localhost

what does it say ?

For localhost also the same error.

i think the problem in my command.

so plz give me a command to eneble telnet & for telnet localhost

And if you want to know how to enable Telnet, how about telling us what version/distro of 'linux based os' you're using? Most of the time, you can edit the /etc/xinetd.d/telnet file, and change the DISABLE from "YES" to "NO", then enter "sudo /etc/init.d/xinetd restart". But that's only if you have telnet installed, and if you don't, that file won't be present. To install it, we again need to know what version/distro of Linux

Also, be aware that telnet is VERY insecure, and should be avoided at all costs. SSH, which comes installed on pretty much every Linux distro, is much safer.
