why I cant I send email?

Alright I am about at the end of my rope,. I have been struggling with Balsa and Ximian now foru about 2 hours. I cannot send mail at all. My computer will not connect to my ISP's SMTP server. What is wrong? Why can't it connect?

What error message are you getting?

Brother Michael 12-18-2003 07:37 PM

not getting one, its just timing out.

Well if you're absolutely sure that your ISP's smtp isn't down then double check the server address, try ping it to see if its alive.
Otherwise you still have the option of using sendmail(or watever MTA) on your local machine.

Dude - If you're using Evolution, you may have the 'server authentication" box checked for Sending Mail. This is unnecessary -- you do want server authentication when *getting* mail (using your POP account) but not for sending mail (SMTP). In other words, to send mail, you don't need authentication. If you've got that box checked, undo it and see if that helps. -- J.W.

nope nothing.

This is starting to really get on my nerves. Outlook Express works just fine with the SMTP server, so I know it's not SBC's fault.
