im no one important for giving you sugestions cos im new aswell, just some imput!

if the device you are talking about is a card of some type then you do need a linux driver, the windows drivers that come packed with products (ie ethernet cards modems) dont work with linux!
you may need to search for the linux equivalent driver for that product at the makers webpage or searching google with the card name and the words linux + driver

I really would like to help but i have no experience in getting wireless cards working. Give me a little time (i'm just back home) to do a little research. Firstly however, what kernel version are you running? can you do a "lsdev" and if so, is the wireless card picked up as a device? Do you know what chip set the card is running on? I plan to look that up but if you already know it will save me a little time.

To be truthfull, i did very little research on this one. Try reading this link and tell me how it turns out. seems to be dead simple and should work regardless of the distro or card.

hope this helps. please do reply with how you get on. thanks

As an after thought, a comment which i feel is left out of the tutorial,...

You might not have the wireless tools installed. It should be easy to tell. as root type 'iwconfig'. if that works, continue with the tutorial. if not, get them from here

http://www.hpl.hp.com/personal/Jean_...nux/Tools.html

You shouldn't have to read that page, just grab the latest version and install it using the instructions given. then back to the tutorial.
