Guys this is my third post of the day WITH the same Problem.....
I have a college linux istalled on my laptop. and im using DWL-650 pcmcia network card. but it doesnot work. when i browse the web nothing opens. i kannt surf the net! the act light on the card isnt litUP. Does it means that i dont have the driver or what???
Also my eth0 isnt working too. it also gives me the same damn problem. when i hook the cable into the ethernet port and try to browse the web nothing opens...kant surf the net! WHY?????
Finally i got my eth0 working by using modprobe eth0 at the CLI. But i dont know how to set my D-Link DWL-650 pcmcia card working on my laptop which is running College Linux. Please someone help me here...........please.............
im no one important for giving you sugestions cos im new aswell, just some imput!
if the device you are talking about is a card of some type then you do need a linux driver, the windows drivers that come packed with products (ie ethernet cards modems) dont work with linux!
you may need to search for the linux equivalent driver for that product at the makers webpage or searching google with the card name and the words linux + driver
I really would like to help but i have no experience in getting wireless cards working. Give me a little time (i'm just back home) to do a little research. Firstly however, what kernel version are you running? can you do a "lsdev" and if so, is the wireless card picked up as a device? Do you know what chip set the card is running on? I plan to look that up but if you already know it will save me a little time.
To be truthfull, i did very little research on this one. Try reading this link and tell me how it turns out. seems to be dead simple and should work regardless of the distro or card.
As an after thought, a comment which i feel is left out of the tutorial,...
You might not have the wireless tools installed. It should be easy to tell. as root type 'iwconfig'. if that works, continue with the tutorial. if not, get them from here
