Hello all of my linuxquestions forum friends!
I am annoying about my Fedora Core 5 linux OS in opening "add or remove software package" (package name is 'pirut') to add next softwares by using Fedora Core 5 CDs.
When I open this program, show the message error including this text "could not retrived software packages".
Please return, if you know to solve this problem.

I have done to login as root user. But This error still occur "Could not retrived software packages".
I think this is concerned with the Add or Removed Package "pirut" or Fedora Core 5 Bugs.

Please help me again. I am still annoying about this problem.

you should login as root.

try logiggin as root and do the same.

You really do not want to log in to the GUI as root---and it should not be necessary.

If you open the add software menu item, it should ask you for the root password.

Make sure the program preferences are set to look on the CDs

I also got the same problem in FC3.

The fedora does not ask any password to do administrative work,
while we login as a normal user.

we have to login as root in the GUI to do things in GUI mode.
