Why doesnt OpenOffice work after install?

I installed OpenOffice according to the instructions of this video.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lF_MLko6N8I

On the video it says to go to System > Update Menu > Start from Scratch. Mine does not have a Update menu option. I'm not sure if this option matters or not for this version of Slackware(13.37).

Anyway, when I double click the icon to run the program a box pops up saying:

This will start the program:
Openoffice.org3 -writer%U

So I click continue and then another box comes up saying:

Sorry- Plasma Workspace
Unable to make the service OpenOffice.org 3.3 Writer executable, aborting execution

Any ideas. Id really like to save files as .doc and I'm unable to do so with Kword.

Thanks

Hello Erik,

First off, I highly recommend LibreOffice over OpenOffice, because it's kind of the new 'de facto' suite for Linux. From the youtube link I assume you use Slackware? If yes, you can remove any files you installed using the dated youtube guide, and install LibreOffice using Alien Bob's Slackware packages:

Slackware 13.37:
Code:

http://connie.slackware.com/~alien/slackbuilds/libreoffice/pkg/13.37/ (32bit)
http://connie.slackware.com/~alien/slackbuilds/libreoffice/pkg64/13.37/ (64bit)

Download libreoffice-3.4.4-(your architecture)-2alien.txz and the appropriate language pack (if your language is not USA English)

Install (as root) with:
Code:

installpkg (name of txz packages you downloaded)

Thank you, Kabamaru, I will try LibreOffice instead.
