Why does my PC sit so long on the blue screen with the Fedora "f"?

I'm trying to install Fedora for the first time on a Dell Optiplex 760. It's loaded with HD space and 4gig of memory. I'm booting from the CD and it gets to the Blue screen with the "f" in the center and just sits there for what seems like forever?

press 'esc' to see what is going on

you may need to pass options to the kernel at boot.

if you have some other live cd or Linux install post output of

#lspci -vv

I have tried Fedora and Ubuntu and they both seem to get through the install but when they finish they reboot and then just sit there for hours on the start up screen. It just hangs there. Is there something I'm missing in the installation? Do I need to do something to prep the HD? I almost like my PC goes to sleep during the start up. Please help! If I have to pass options to the kernel at boot where do I do that? If I hit escape it does nothing...

Have you tried a text-mode install? Under the described circumstances that might be better than trying for the default GUI install.

I think I have an idea why it's hanging. It doesn't like my video card. After the installation it reboots into a black screen with the cursor in the upper left corner. How do I get around this? Also, I'm using the 64 bit version, would that make any difference?

Sorry, I should have posted that but anyway it's a "Integrated Intel Graphic Media Accelerator 4500". If they don't make a driver is there a way to use a generic driver?

the intel driver is built into the kernel, it is already installed
but you might want to look at this help page
"HowTo: Installing Fedora 10 on machine with old Intel video chipset "
http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=207320
it is a bit old but might help

You are wrong. Both 'radeon' and 'radeonhd' work fine with those cards. rpmfusion has drivers too.

your driver is i810

You may need a custom /etc/X11/xorg.conf file

You can try the option vga=...
see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VESA_BI...o_mode_numbers
