Why does Gentoo not boot

Hi there...

I've been installing Linux Gentoo now for 8 hours, my eyes hurts so please ignore all my spelling mistakes.

Here we go.

When I am booting up my Computer and want to start Linux Gentoo then I get the fallowing message:

root (hd0,3)

kernel (hd0,3)/kernel-2.4.24 root=/dev/ram0 init=/linuxrc real_root=/dev/hda6

Error 1: Filename must be either an absolute pathname or blocklist.

So what do we have.

I've got dev/hda4
= boot

dev/hda3
= swap

dev/hda6
= root

I've used genkernel.

Thanks for every help.

unless you've got a really weird partition system i can't imagine, it's impossible to have an hda4 containing data. you already have hda6 which means that one of the 4 possible primary partitions MUST be an Extended partition, so that'll be hda4 which can't contain files, only other virtual partitions..... use fdisk -l to display what the partitions actually are on your system.

Hmm... I don't really get it.. The installation was succesfully so where's the problem on my weired partition system ?..

I had to play a little bit with it because I already had windows installed..

and I can just choose primary from 1-4

a few of the other partitions are reserved from my windows machine..

Exclamation

Hey fellas.

I managed to install LILO now.
And everything is booting right.

But after a few moments of booting I get the fallowing error:

/bin/bash: can't access tty;
job control turned off
attempt to access beyond end of device

01:00: rw=0, want=4412, limit=4096

attemt to access beyond end of device

01:00: rw=0, want=4412, limit=4096

I guess that means like that there's a wanting of 4412 (Kb?) but there is a limit of 4096 (Kb?)
so I think in my partitions are something wrong.

here is a screenshot of my currently partition system. (It would be good if you understand a little bit german if not ask me)

http://www.unknow.de/partition.jpg

Thanks.

well that screenshot does show it's an odd setup, but that doesn't say it shouldn't work just fine. get into gentoo on the boot disk again and run "fdisk -l" and just write down what it says etc...

did i read that right?, did it say theres 5 primary partitions?!?!!

what does "ls -l /dev/tty*" say? (without the quotes, some people type the quotes, and that leaves everyone else to wonder what is wrong for the next 5 months)

hey SciYro

yes primär means primary
logisch means logic "logical"

ls -l /dev/tty shows me:

crw-rw-rw- 1 root root 5, 0 Jan 1 1970 /dev/tty

I also tried to make the Swap partition as big as possible.. Used Partition Magic..

But it still doesn't seem to work.
