why do i have to have usb plugged in during linux boot for it to work
the wireless network usb device isn't configured unless its plugged in during bootup? help; i need it to work without rebooting.

so what Linux Distro are you running ?
What wireless dongle ? (output of lsusb please) |
its pendrivelinux v1, a remix of debian.
lsusb is showing a belkins plugged in and the usb hard drive. my network card is the belkins. at least i know its recognizing it. |
Hi,
'udev' should handle the device when it is plugged into the port. If not then rules are not setup properly for the device. |
a belkin what.. ? is there a model number ? usually lsusb lists more than just a manufacturer name.
lsusb -vv to get more detail |

Chances are that your current distro does something silly, like
bringing up network interfaces before udev is finished. Try (after having plugged the USB network adapter in *after* boot) running /etc/init.d/network restart Cheers, Tink P.S.: If you want help spare us the attitude. It's impossible to help you w/o knowledge of what your set-up is. I also don't know how many people would be running pendrive linux (I've never even heard of it before today) with a network adapter whose make and model they don't know ... Code:
"Doctor, I'm sick!" |

without knowing the exact device we can't check if the module for it is loading.. Belkin makes lots of cards, and they don't all use the same wireless chip, which means they use different drivers. Not sure why you came to ask for help if you are just going to argue with people that are trying to assist you, and be a smart-ass while spewing derogatory comments. Best of luck. hopefully Tinksters solution works, because I won't be wasting my time with you any more. |

I would say the OP needs to join a few other forums first and then come back and try again:
