Why can't I use my floppy drive???

I using mandrake 9.1 and I cannot use my floppy drive. It recognizes it an all that, but when I go to write something to it is says access denied. And the disk is not write protected. Is there a setting somewhere that I gotta to change or what. I'm lost. As you can tell, I don't know much about Linux. All I've ever used before is Windows. Thanks
