Why are the files for Xfree86 cluttered EVERYWHERE!!
 

I have XFree86 files in /usr/X11R6, /etc/X11, then tons of configs in tons of subdirectories, along with libraries in /lib, and even my XF86Config file is in TWO PLACES. Is there no STANDARD place for XFree86 to go? Why can't it go in JUST /etc/X11.

Or, is it my distro that is doing it. I installed Peanut Linux (really good install..i was impressed) but, then it was far more cluttered than I expected. Kind of saddened me..

If this is abnormal, I would love to know, but, if it is normal, I will be sad.

Normal is /usr/X11R6, so that users have access to all of the executables that make up X in /usr/X11R6/bin, /etc/X11 is most of the configurations, which are in /etc to keep them out of a users reach should they wish to break X, /lib because X has a library rivaling Glibc itself, and an entry per user (including root's) that tells X how to act for that particular user. Its relatively easy for one user to have a KDE desktop, and another Gnome. A lot of the rest is going to be static links to other libs and other places. Some wierd stuff, for instance, NetHack, requires some X11 libraries be installed in order to compile. Why I have no idea.

A lot more than you would expect is pretty normal. X is a big fat bloated pig.
