Question Why apt-get update doesn't work?

the vim /etc/apt/sources.list

deb http://opensource.nchc.org.tw/debian etch main non-free
deb http://security.debian.org/ etch/updates main contrib

Error:

Err http://opensource.nchc.org.tw etch Release.gpg

W: You may want to run apt-get update to correct these problems
E: Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead.

What seems to be the problem?

Based on your error messages, I would guess that your web proxy (?), proxy.pregi.net, was down when you tried to use apt-get. I tried pinging the proxy and it is now online. You might try it again to see if it works now. I assume you have a functioning DNS configured.
cheers,
jdk
