Hi tiger99!
Welcome to LinuxQuestions.org. There are hundred of Linux distributions out there :). I'd recommend distro watch for some reviews: http://www.distrowatch.com/ LinuxQuestions.org has a growing reviews sections. You'd probably like to check it out too: http://www.linuxquestions.org/reviews/index.php?cat=2 At the end, the best is always to try out as many distributions as you can/want and then decide the one that fits you the best. Regards! |

dont' forget about the bsd's
|
I could never get a bsd to install :(. 5.2 keeps giving me a writing error message during install. I really want to try bsd :). But perhaps a Linux is easier to start with for a newbie ;)

play with netbsd and openbsd. they're all so different, you're unlikely to run into
the same problems. That's what made gentoo so fun for me, since i had played with the bsd's for years. gentoo took about the best feature from freebsd, the ports, and made it work in linux. openbsd and netbsd added the ports before gentoo existed though, to the best of my knowledge. i love having all this stuff to play with. |
Good idea whansard. I think I will give OpenBSD a shot :). FreeBSD looked awesome though. It requires practically nothing of RAM ro run. That'be great to use in a box that I found on the trash last week as a server :). Cannot believe peoples trow working PC's away.. well good for me :p
