Thank you for your guidance. Very much appreciated.
Have browsed thru "Popular Linux Distributions" on http://iso.linuxquestions.org/
and read reviews for each in "Popular Linux Distributions". Some simply not applicable to home use, and some simply no reviews at all or no longer supported.
(Promising: PCLinuxOS 2013.02, ZorinOS Light, Simply Mepis, Arch Linux 2012.11.01)
Your link to ZorinOS site lifted my spirits ... I am going to jump into bed with "ZorinOS"
Wine might also be very helpful. (Including the bottled stuff)
I have two internet access laptops. Browsing and email only.
Toshiba-2012-Win7-32bit to replace Acer-2007-WinXP-32bit.
Toshiba is not ready for internet.
Would it be safe to partition the Acer for a dual OS with XP and ZorinOS ?
Or should I try the portable ZorinOS first ?
I cannot afford to be without reliable internet PC.
Neccessary for a busy engineering consultancy. I am an Excel and Autocad developer on the side.
Partioning the Acer HD to accomodate ZorinOS makes me nervous. If the Toshiba was ready I would have no hestitation in clean installing Zorin on the Acer.
You have been very generous with your time, and your leads/links are adding to my knowledge base.
I have many VBScripts -- will they run thru "Wine"
Will Excel VBA code run under Wine -- it would be helpful if my Excel addins would run under Zorin/Wine.
Have downloaded LibreOffice but cannot find keywords, objects, methods, functions etc in LO "code editor"
