Angry which linux daemon to use?


assume that u have setup a server that will translate an ip address to a user friendly name such as www.felly1bas.ac.za. Which daemon would u normally use?

Hello and Welcome to LinuxQuestions,

What you are referring to is called DNS (Domain Name System) and exists in various 'flavors' on Linux, bind, PowerDNS, .... Have fun with Linux. If you want more specific answers then please provide more detail on what you need to know or with what you're experiencing problems.

EricTRA is correct, the protocol is called DNS (Domain Name System), but the application used on MOST linux machines is called BIND.

BIND HOMEPAGE: http://www.isc.org/software/bind

the daemon is called named (for name daemon - named).
