Which distro best for this wireless card and setup?
 

Didnt know whether to put this question in the wireless forum, but its mainly a newbie one.

I have an old PC, an AMD K6-2 350Mhz which id like to make into a wireless box to put in another room. I have a Wireless D-Link G520 network card to put in it and am wondering which distro would be best to put on, basically just to run movies and audio on the computer across the network.

The computer currently has nothing on it and would be solely a linux box.

Redhat Fedora Core 2 using Kernel 2.6.5 is what you want. It has many of the drivers for your wireless devices built into the kernel. I am using a Netgear WG511 pcmcia card for my notebook, and it recognized it with a little tweaking. The one thing you have to do yourself is find out if there is a firmware.agent that needs to be loaded into hotplug for your card to work. A good site to learn about wireless is www.prism54.org. It basically describes and gives how-to's on how to get more common prism chipset wireless devices to work under Linux. Cheers, and good luck :)

Your old hardware should work just fine with newer versions of Fedora Core 2. One thing about Linux is that they don't ditch support for legacy hardware, unlike Windows. They build their improvements on top of it.
