Which Distribution Package is best for development + learning system admistration+..?

I had been using Fedora Core 3 , but as i am a hobby programmer i wanted to learn many thing like php,qt,java, gtk+,python etc.. ( )

But the problem with this distro is i have to sometimes download new tools(like new IDE s or library) to acomplish my job. Also the support for MPEGs , usb drives, pci (controllerless) modem is not good or at all supported ! It can't even detect my usb drive(portable pen drive). i have to download old tools such as xine , xmms , mplayer from the site to support the mp3 or dvd video , though it was included with the package. It dosen't have any java IDE .

I am tired of downloading every day.
So Can any one suggest me with a distro which has almost all the tools i ever needed ? (I mean with more software/library bundled with ?)

:Pengy:

Man!!! what a waste...use whatever distro you want to. Why poll?????

Psibur 07-01-2005 04:08 PM

You're not going to get many results on this poll because you forgot Slackware!! :tisk:

(BTW: I'm being (mostly) silly here ;) )

tuxrules 07-01-2005 04:12 PM

Yeah!! well said...i didn't even see what options they have because i'm so turned off.

pl. stop bashing this newbie

i am sure he is learning on his way and he is not the first one here to ask such kind of questions

I'm not and I don't intend to. If you read carefully...I'm not trying to discourage a particular person. I am expressing my displeasure at the polls. There are a million polls out here of similar nature and I am sure you are aware of that.

Tux,

yes i agree with u for that polls
there are a lot of them

Forget the poll just get a copy of "kdevelop" as part of the KDE package and it will allow you to program in a number of different languages. It a full IDE and after a little perseverance is quite easy to use.

Slackware, without a millisecond of hesitation. It'll teach you about Linux better then anything else. You can compile most things without changing much and it's fast. Though I wouldn't recommend it to newbies (how new are you?).
