Not exactly, Testing and Unstable get the latest software earlier than Stable, "latest software" is not always "advanced features" ;) It may be, or it may be bugfixes or performance boosts, or even a shinyier GUI.

I too have noticed that seniour Linux users on this forum are mostly useing Testing and Unstable, but I must stress that the relative advantages of Stable, Testing and Unstable mostly come down to what your using your computer for, and personal opinion. Just because most of the senior Linux users here are on Testing and Unstable (for desktops anyway, Stable is the favourite for servers) doesn't mean its right for you, make your own mind up :)
That said I'd start with Stable, if only because when something changes, you can rule out the latest upgrades as the cause, when you know a bit more about Linux then by all means try testing and unstable.

Not really, I started with Stable then upgraded to testing, just like I recommend to others. |
