which adobe flash to download for Linux Mint 17.2

Firefox is blocking an outdated Adobe Flash

Adobe is asking which version of flash I want:
YUM for Linux (YUM)
.tar.gz for other linux
.rpm for other linux
APT for Ubuntu

my instinct tell me YUM is the one but I would like a little clarification.

Any help appreciated.

since mint is ubuntu based i would assume you would want apt ?

i dont think adobe is planning any more linux releases so any version you use will trigger that warning from firefox.

Are you sure you don't already have it installed? Mint (unless you downloaded the one with no codecs) usually has everything you need pre-installed.

Mint will provide Flash through the package manager, or software centre or whatever it's called. Or, as mentioned, you can apt-get it. The Firefox warning normally means that Flash is not up to date under Debian I sometimes have to run the following (as root) to get it up to date:
Code:
update-flashplugin-nonfree --status
Thereafter the message in Firefox disappears.
I don't think you should have to do that on Mint so you should just have to ensure that you install updates regularly.
Whichever, either way you should not have to download anything manually from Adobe. If you've carried out a system update recently and you're still seeing issues let me know and I'll try to install Mint in a VM and check things out for you.
Regarding Linux support for Flash -- it's supported for a while yet though only with security and bug fixes and Firefox does sometimes give an error that Flash is out of date before Adobe get around to fixing it. However, as things stand, you shouldn't be seeing problems with Flash in Firefox if you keep your Flash up to date.

To all above, keep in mind that Adobe dropped support for the Linux version of their Flash Player in April 2014. The latest version of Flash Player for Linux is version 11.2.*. Adobe only releases security updates, but this will be stopped in 2017 (if i'm not mistaken).

Best is to install Pipelight, this will provide the Windows version of Flash which is still maintained and updated.
Check here for the website: http://pipelight.net/cms/

Mozilla should create a flash replacement as google did for it's browser. It's a shame pepper flash is not opensource, then firefox can use it as well.

There is gnash player, but it isn't as good as pepper flash.

Mozilla could use PPAPI if they wanted to -- they're just against the idea for whatever reason. Chromium is open source and uses PPAPI.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NPAPI#PPAPI
Mozilla seem to think that web standards like HTML5 ought to be sorting these things out and that working on Pepper would be a duplication of effort in other areas.
