where to start


Hello Just joined Really would appreciate some help and advice , Ive decided to dual boot my pc after my pc was wrecked after new ms udates it just went odd , I cannot copy from my pc to my external freecom hardrive it wont disc check it freezes and crashes the pc , If i re install my pc minus these improvements my pc is fine I can copy defrag alls fine but immediately i re install validation tool although i have a genuine windows xp cd the problems come back this only has happened this month no spyware etc so i finally had enough 13 re intalls later with all patches I want LINUX but what linux will do? for surfing??? I have avg 7.0 and kerio 4.2 which I believe will do to protect the computer, I am not a techy I only have just got to grips with windows ,Ive bought norton partition magic , I have norton ghost 2003 my idea to get it set up somehow and maybe sort my pc out , I seemed to have spent more time updating than enjoying my pc hence my questions I dont know how to produce a bootable cd !!! even though ive learnt to burn dvds ok ive never burnt images etc to cd so im clue less any help welcome thanks

What burning program are you using, Nero? Easy CD Creator?
Do you have an ISO?
Have you tried this quiz?

Choose smth for your liking. Burn (on low speed 4x) and enjoy. Here is a lot of material to choose from

DO NOT choose gentoo even though it looks pretty. It's very advanced. Go with smth easy to switch from Windoze. I recommend SuSE or Mandrake (Mandriva). Easy and user friendly
