Where to give noapic option to start linux
I have installed "Redhat Enterprise linux ws version 4 32 bit x86"
Linux in my system. When booting it is showing an error "kernel panic not syncing io apic timer doesn't work boot with apic = debug option" How can I get a command prompt to give this option. What is the actual command to start with noapic option. Anyone please help me. Thanks |
Hi, usually, when the boot prompt menu comes up, press F3 or what-ever (maybe F2 or F1 or esc.),
and type in the command-line... noapic I also have to type in nomsi (or pci=nomsi) It may be a colour menu with a cli from grub. Either way, you need to catch the boot process before the kernel begins to load. Later you can check out how to add the command to the boot menu so it starts (that way normally). Cheers, Glenn ps. I am using amd Sempron new processor and Asus mother bord
thanks It is booting now. Why this error is coming Is this due to the installation of 32 bit linux in 64 bit machine. |
I'm not too sure why the chipset behaves that way.
It's too complicated for me. I just know when ever I have to boot from cd, or a new kernel I have to insert them into the boot command line. I'm sure there is more about it, I've read abit on MSI and the kernel, but it is not within my scope of using/maintaining GNU/linux systems. Google pci=nomsi noapic Cheers, Glenn |
Thankyou
Fine . Thankyou . Linux is booting now with noapic option
