Hello Tinkster,
Nope, I'm doing it right. I've done it several times as 'root' and still it scrolls down every file, of various names, not just any relating to my printer download. I'm typing in : find / iname "ok4200.pcl.ppd" The last time I did it, a new sentence appeared at the bottom of the screen at the end of the file list. It said: 'find: iname: No such file or directory'. I also got: 'find: ok4200pcl.ppd: no such file or directory' as usual. If I have no such file or directory as 'iname' does this mean something is wrong with my Libranet installation? Cheers, |
Ummm ... where did the - in front of the iname go?
|
Well, I feel suitably humbled, Tinkster. So sorry to have got it wrong again and wasted your time.
However when I do type it right: root@libranet:/home/jennifer# find / -iname "ok4200pcl.ppd" I get returned to the command line. No message about directories and files not existing, just back to root@ etc. Golly, this is taking a time to sort out, isn't it? Cheers, |
That means that it a) didn't download at all or b)
downloaded to /tmp/kde-jennifer and may have been deleted on reboot. Cheers, Tink |
Hi Tinkster,
Yes, I think you're right. I went back to the OKI website today and tried to download again. It didn't even go through the motions this time and I suspect it didn't download originally. Many many thanks for your time and patience over this abortive issue. Best wishes, Blotch |
Didn't anyone notice his first post?
He used the KDE tool, and found the file. I think his problem was not noticing the "/" in front of the "tmp," or (if the KDE tool didn't put it there) not knowing the "/tmp" is the default temporary directory. Later he reports that a Code:
ls /tmp/kde-jenifer/ Suggestion: Try the download again, using a browser that lets you specify the file location. (I use Firefox, but almost any "modern" browser should offer to let you select the download location and name. Usually a "right-click" and "save link as" will do it, at least in most of the browsers I've used.) |
Hello PTrenholme,
Sorry I haven't been back to you earlier. I've had no end of trouble getting my posts accepted here for some reason I don't understand. Like so much of computers.... Anyway, I'll have another go at downloading firefox and let you know what happens. Many thanks for your guidance. |
Hi PTrenholme,
I'm really mixed up, aren't I? I'm trying to download firefox as well and have my threads mixed up. Sorry about that. I'll stop playing with Oki until I get my browser sorted out. Best wishes, |
